What to pack for a 2-day trek when you're carrying everything yourself
Every gram you pack, your knees carry uphill. Our gear editor shares the list that survived six seasons:
1/ The rule: base weight under 10kg. Weigh everything. Sentimental items are the heaviest.
2/ Sleep: a liner plus the teahouse/homestay blanket beats hauling a full sleeping bag on most Asian trails.
3/ Feet: broken-in trail shoes, never new boots. Two pairs of socks — one on, one drying on your pack.
4/ Safety kit that actually gets used: headlamp, blister tape, whistle, power bank, period supplies even 'off-schedule' — altitude and stress change cycles.
5/ The comfort item you're allowed: one. Ours is a tiny packet of good coffee. Choose yours and enjoy it guilt-free.
