Perimenopause after 40: 5 signs women in Asia dismiss too easily

We asked three gynaecologists what patients most often wave away as 'just stress' or 'just getting older.' Swipe through for real insights.

1/5

1/ Sleep that breaks at 3am — not occasional, but most nights for weeks. Often the earliest sign women report.

2/5

2/ Cycles that quietly change — shorter, longer, heavier, or suddenly unpredictable after years of clockwork.

3/5

3/ New anxiety or low mood that feels unlike you. Hormones affect mood chemistry; it's not a character flaw.

4/5

4/ Joint aches and frozen shoulders that physio alone doesn't fix — a surprisingly common hormonal signal.

5/5

5/ Brain fog in familiar tasks. If you're re-reading sentences you wrote, you're not 'losing it' — get checked.

Clinically accurate and, importantly, it sends women to a doctor rather than to supplements. Well done.

Number 1 and 5 for two years. Booking a check-up this week instead of blaming myself.

Seven small changes that improved my sleep

None of these are dramatic. Together they moved me from five broken hours to seven. 1. Same wake time, even weekends. 2. Coffee before 11am. 3. Ten minutes of daylight before 9am. 4. Phone charges outside the bedroom. 5. A written 'tomorrow list' at 9pm. 6. Cooler room. 7. If awake 20 minutes, get up and read. If your sleep problems persist, please speak with a qualified health professional — this is education, not diagnosis.
